Birth Interval Affects Breast Cancer

Interval between the birth of a child may affect breast cancer. Thus the results of a study reported in the British Journal of Cancer. The study shows the effect of birth interval on 29,488 women in Finland. Women with birth spacing of less than 12 months, have cancer risk five times greater than women who have a distance of three years and above.

"The results are not necessarily positive diagnose or give the verdict of a woman developing cancer. But it showed a higher risk," said Josephine Querido, of Cancer Research UK researchers.

The researchers divided the women according to those who develop a specific type of breast cancer, who suffered from advanced tumors, aged under 50 years old, and has at least five children. Then again divided into small groups so that positive results may be found in one sub-group.

"It is important to consult if they find an unusual changes in their breasts. And go do the inspection if requested," he said.

Suspected to be factors causing the increased risk is the association of hormones. Yet still requires further research and testing to reveal the cause-effect details.
